(Conceiver, Founder and President of UPM – Un Punto Macrobiotico)

Born in Tirana in April 1944, with his mother from Montenegro and his father from theMarche Region (Italy). He has received an altruistic education and he is an autodidact.

 1970 He conceives and organizes evening courses and studies on nutrition. 

1972 He introduces traditional vegetables that had been removed from the market into the territory of the Marche Region. He prepares wild seeds with help from his father. He begins a study on Water. First studies on the cell. 


1973 Upon request, he disseminates vegetarian diets in 40 Italian provinces.

 

1974 He reads and studies the book “Zen Macrobiotics” by G. O.

1975 He introduces diagnosis by iridology in the Marche Region. 
He is a chief contributor to the founding of the first organic farm in Italy. 1976 He is appointed Chairman of the Assembly at the foundation of the SNI (“Società  Naturisti Italiani”, Italian Society of Naturists).

1977 He continually takes care of families in need.

1979 He writes “An Invitation to Macrobiotics”.

1980 He conceives and founds UPM (Un Punto Macrobiotico).

1983 He gives the 1st course for Doctors.

1986 He suggests the creation of a World Macrobiotics Commission. 
He conceives and organizes the 1st UPM Conference, with G. O.’s pupils. 1988 After speeches and conferences by Pianesi, many authors published several books.

1994 He is the first white man to conceive and organize Solidarity Campaigns for the Aztec People. 
1995 He writes “An Invitation to Macrobiotics – 1st course for Doctors”. He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Macrobiotics and Science”. He gives hope to children affected by the Chernobyl disaster. 
1999 He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Judo and its roots”. 
2000 He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Use, Custom, Tradition, Culture”, which has been held every year so far, under the auspices of several Ministries. He gives the 1st Course on: “Nutrition” at the Air Force Non-commissioned Officer Training School in Loreto. He conceives and promotes the “Ma-Pi 2 Diabetes Project” in Countries in 3 different Continents. 
2001 He conceives and organizes the first Macrobiotic initiative at the Senate of the Italian Republic, which has been held every year so far. Upon invitation by the Society of Natural Sciences of Tunisia, he gives 2 lectures at the Tunisian “12th Biology Days”. 
2002 He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “From Ancient Chinese Theories to the Pianesian Sustainable Development”, in collaboration with UNESCO, INEA, the National Research Council, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the La Sapienza University, the Marche Region, the Science and Technology Section of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Italy, the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust, etc., which has been held every year so far. 
2003 He publishes “A Manual on Nutrition CI-HA” for elementary and junior schools. 
2004 He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Rice: Fundamental Food for Human Health”, which has been held every year so far in collaboration with the National Rice Body and with the National Body for Selected Seed.

2005 He is appointed as a member of the UNESCO Scientific Committee on Education for Sustainable Development. 
2006 He receives an award for “Best work in diet therapy” from China. He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Health, Economy” in the context of the Italian Celebrations of the FAO World Food Day, in collaboration with the Italian National Commission for UNESCO and under the auspices of the FAO, WFP, IPGRI and IFAD, held every year so far, also under the auspices of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy and of the European Parliament. 
2007 He receives an honorary degree of Professor and Doctor from the Academy of Sciences of the MongolianRepublic
2008 He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Ma-Pi Polyculture: A proposal for Sustainable Agriculture”, on the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification, under the auspices of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification) and of the Italian National Commission for UNESCO. He conceives and organizes the 1st Conference on “Polyculture and Ma-Pi Diets, Health and Sustainable Development”, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. He receives a medal from the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano, for having conceived and organized the 3rd Conference on “Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Health, Economy” in the context of the Italian Celebrations of the FAO World Food Day. 
2010 He is appointed as a member of the Editorial Board of the science journal “Journal of Arab Board of Medical Specializations”. 
2011 He gives the 1st course for Pharmacists as part of the Ministry of Health’s Continuing Medical Education program. On the occasion of the 6th Conference “Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Health, Economy” at the Aula Magna of the La Sapienza University, Prof. Manuel Hernández Triana (Chairman of the Latin American Society of Nutrition) gave Mario Pianesi an award from the Academy of Sciences of Cuba for his contribution and collaboration with Cuban scientists and academics, which has brought assistance, knowledge and original developments of inestimable value and previously unknown to the World Scientific Community, and for the extraordinary results obtained in the treatment of illnesses, in natural agriculture and in environmental preservation. In the same period, Prof. Mario Pianesi was appointed as an honorary member of the Mongolian Association for Research and Experimentation to Combat Desertification by virtue of his fundamental theoretical and practical contribution to the realization of projects for reforestation, restoration and preservation of the environment. Governmental and scientific authorities of the Republic of Cuba awarded Prof. Mario Pianesi with the High Title of Special Category of “Researcher of Merit” for the concrete transformations of the environment, agriculture, nutrition, health and economy that have taken place in the Cuban Nation as a result of the application of his indications. It is an award that has been conferred very rarely, and only to Scientists whose work has given a substantial contribution to the solution of environmental and health problems. The Award was signed in the original by the Minister of Science, Technology and the Environment, Dr. José Miyar Barrueco. 
2012He is awarded with the qualification and honorary title of First Farmer Protecting Agricultural Biodiversity in the Lombardy region by Professor Graziano Rossi, from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences of theUniversity of Pavia. On the occasion of the 11th Conference “From Ancient Chinese Theories to the Pianesian Sustainable Development”, he receives the qualification and title of Honorary Associate and Member of the CISD (International Center for Studies on Diabetes) from Prof. Francesco Fallucca, by virtue of his invaluable work for the promotion of healthier and more balanced life and food styles and, therefore, for his contribution to scientific research in the prevention and therapy of chronic diseases, particularly Diabetes Mellitus. On the same occasion, he is awarded the high title of “Researcher of Merit” by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, which he receives personally from the hands of Dr. Carmen Porrata Maury (Scientific Director of the Ma-Pi Projects in Cuba, formerly responsible, for 28 years, for the Dietary Recommendations for the Cuban People, and a contributor to the Panamerican Health Organization). He receives the title of Honorary Member of the Cultural Association “Gli Amici di Righetto” (“Friends of Righetto”) from Chairman Dr. Roberto Bruni and the Honor Committee of the National Righetto Award, under the auspices of the Lazio Region, the Province of Rome, the Municipality of Rome and the Lazio Regional Council. On behalf of the Italian Ministry of the Interior and the Department of Public Security, he receives, from Police Chief Ciro de Luca (Director of the Fermo Police Station), the qualification of Teacher for State Police Officers and Executives, for his important contribution to the well-being of the population and, in particular, for the closeness and support that he has always offered to all Police Forces for healthy and peaceful common living. He gives the 1st Course for Surgeons specializing in endocrinology, metabolic diseases, diabetology and general practice, as part of the Ministry of Health’s Continuing Medical Education program, on the subject “Prevention and Diet Therapy of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Metabolic Syndrome: the Experience with the Ma-Pi Diets”. The President of the Republic of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, honors Prof. Mario Pianesi with a second Medal of the Presidency of the Republic for having conceived, organized and implemented the Conferences on “Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Health, Economy”. The medal was given to him by former Minister Prof. Gianni Mattioli. He receives, from Prof. M. Hisham Al Sibai (Secretary General of the Arab Board of Health Specializations – JABMS), the Official Symbol of the Arab Board of Health Specializations, an organization which brings together the Ministers of Health of the 22 nations of the Arab League. He is awarded the symbol of Peace by Prof. Sadok Bouzid, who also proposes him for the Nobel Prize and suggests the creation of a UPM Foundation for Peace and Wellbeing in the World. On the occasion of the UNESCO week of Education for Sustainable Development (November 19-25) on the subject “Mother Earth: Food, Agriculture and Ecosystem”, an initiative under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, the Italian National Commission for UNESCO sponsored a special edition of “A Manual on Nutrition CI-HA” by Prof. Dr. Mario Pianesi, with a commentary by Prof. Gianni Mattioli and Prof. Mariano Bizzarri, and declared the book a reference text for its significant contribution to sustainable development. He is named Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Italian Republic Mr. Giorgio Napolitano. 
2013On the occasion of the 1st Course for Officers of the Finance Guard and of the 6th Course for Police Forces, he receives a certificate of appreciation and gratitude from the Provincial Command of the Finance Guard of Macerata for his activity as lecturer. On the occasion of the International Symposium on Diet and Lifestyle Changes as Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes, held at the Aula Magna of the Bio-Medical Campus University, Rome, he is called to chair the section on Diets, Diabetes and Microbiota. He receives, from Prof. Imad Khatib (Secretary General of the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology), the Certificate of Honorary Member and Associate of the Palestine Academy for Science and Technology, and a plaque from the Academy itself, as a sign of “gratitude for all the good things he did for the Palestinians”. He receives, from Prof. Akhmadi Khaulenbek (Executive Director of the Association for Research and Experimentation to Combat Desertification, Mongolia) and also on behalf of Prof. Baataryn Chadraa (President of the Academy of Sciences of Mongolia), the Diploma of Honorary Member of the Mongolian Association for Research and Experimentation to Combat Desertification, which he was awarded in 2011, and a Certificate of Appreciation and Gratitude for the application of the Ma-Pi theories in the fight against desertification and for the application of Ma-Pi Polyculture in Mongolia. Together with Mrs. Tara Gandhi, he receives titles of Honorary Citizenship from the Municipalities of Corridonia and Tolentino.
